Influence of Fracture Geometric Characteristics on Fractured Rock Slope Stability

چکیده
Analysis of the stability slopes in fractured rock masses is not trivial and fraught with uncertainty risk. A DFN-DEC model (Discrete Fracture Network-Distinct Element Code) based on MATLAB platform developed to evaluate random fractures. Then, influences mean values geometric characteristics (i.e., trace length T, dip D, spacing S) for both horizontal (denoted 1) inclined 2) fractures slope are investigated. The results indicate that proposed adequate, robust, can generate more realistic fracture networks. Numerical probabilistic analysis for slope stability in fractured rock masses using DFN-DEM approach
Due to existence of uncertainties in input geometrical properties of fractures, there is not any unique solution for assessing the stability of slopes in jointed rock masses. Therefore, the necessity of applying probabilistic analysis in these cases is inevitable. In this study a probabilistic analysis procedure together with relevant algorithms are developed using Discrete Fracture Network-Dis...
متن کاملThe Effect of Discontinuity Persistence on Rock Slope Stability
l f Discominuity persistence has a major effect on rock mass resistance (strength) but, as direct mapping ofdiscominuities imemal to a rock mass is not possible, persistence is a difficult parameter to measure. As a result, the conservative approach of assuming full persistence is often taken. /n this paper a method is developed for relating rock mass stability and hence persistence to the geom...
متن کاملSystem reliability approach to rock slope stability
A systematic quantitative methodology for the reliability analysis of stability of rock slopes is presented. A sliding mass resting on an inclined plane and composed of two blocks separated by a vertical tension crack is considered, and a disjoint cut-set system formulation is proposed, with each cut-set corresponding to a different failure mode of the slope. Methods for the evaluation of the s...
متن کاملRock Slope Stability Analysis Using Discrete Element Method
Rock slope stability depends very much on the strength features of the rock and the geometrical and strength characteristics of the discontinuities (e.g., roughness, wall strength and persistence). Since a rock mass is not a continuum, its behavior is dominated by such discontinuities as faults, joints and bedding planes. Also, Rock slope instability is a major hazard for human activities and o...
متن کاملFracture-flow-enhanced Solute Diffusion into Fractured Rock
We propose a new conceptual model of fractureflow-enhanced matrix diffusion, which correlates with fracture-flow velocity, i.e., matrix diffusion enhancement induced by rapid fluid flow within fractures. According to the boundary-layer or film theory, fracture flow enhanced matrix diffusion may dominate mass-transfer processes at fracture-matrix interfaces, because rapid flow along fractures re...
